For people living in Europe:

What kind of nail do you use for bending?

In Europe what is a 30, 40 or 60-penny nail?

Thanks

Simone

I think they are the same here in America, I have been

bending 60 penny nails which are I think a pretty standerd

nail to bend, I have 80 penny nails also that I can

put a small bend in but not all the way yet, also

I don't know if it makes a difference but the nails I

got are for use for making Pole Barns :ohmy

An 80d or penny nail is 8 x 3/8 If you can bend it even a little that is awesome.John Brookfield told me he could do them,I dont know of anyone else.

I just bent a nail that was about 7" long and bigger around than a 60D. I guess it was a 70D it was pretty tough. I did it underhand style. I got one I found in my garage when I bought my house that is bigger than this but not as big as 80d. I do not have the heart to bend it. I can not find anymore. It looks 5/16ths. If I did it I would probably brace.

Mostly people use the smooth wire nails or headless and without point  nails like Ironmind's. Some have bent the spiral type nail. I have no idea about the differences as far as bending goes.

Yes that is what mine look like

What is a yellow nail compatable to??? 50d 60d???

How long did it take you to bend and break the

Yellow IM nail and did you have to bend it back

and forth to break it???

About an hour. You have to bend it to a V shape and then open it back up as far as possible and then bend it back to a V again and so on.

No bracing used a piece of cloth about the size of a handcherchief. Did all the bending at chest level. The trick is to open it up to 90 degrees.

Simone: try to find 160X6mm nails. They are easy to find and are on the whole harder than the ironmind blue nail. In fact the initial bend is harder but the chest crush is easier. At least with the ones i use.

the "D" is just a rateing for nails. "Penny" is the same thing. It's a rateing for size, but I'd assume there is no real guideline as every 60D nail is different and I know 16D nails can be of any length and width and vary wildly. Over all, the bigger the nail, the bigger the "D" or "Penny" number.

60D nail

60 penny nail

Same thing.

Does not "penny" refer to the weighing system onced used to determine

the weight of one nail?

For instance, a 16D nail weighs the same as 16 pennies.

I always thought that the IM nails were colored

or is that just a way to seperate them
