They look like smooth crome plated steel disks. 45 pounders? They are polished chrome on one side and painted on the rimmed side. They are calibrated Ivanko plates - 20kg each plus I had a 5kg plate, a 2.5kg plate and a 1/4kg plate on there. The loading pin, carabeaner and RT weighs 6.75lbs on a PO scale, so the total was 200.2lbs. I don't think we intentionally added chalk to it as I've experienced the same thing, but it's got second hand chalk on it, so a real thin layer which makes for a good texture.
