Bare Bones Beginner Workout?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I'm new to grip training and this is my first proper post, I was wanting to ask all you experts about a simple bare bones workout for a beginner.

I already use thick bars and ropes and deadlift double overhand (i'm learning hook grip). But i want to expand on this and perform a grip specific workout after my barbell training.

my main interests concerning grip are: bending, tearing and crushing, but i beleive im too much of a beginner to specialise yet so i plan to gain basic hand and forearm strength for about 4 months first.

this is the basic workout i was thinking of incorporating into my training

2 sets warm up on gripper

3 sets of 5 on gripper

3 sets of 5 on gripper with a pinch grip

3 sets of 15 on wrist curls

3 sets of 15 on reverse wrist curls

rest 1 min between sets

do it 3 times a week at the end of my workouts supersetted with my ab/core exercises.

thanx for reading and thanx in advance for any comments or tips :)

Are you planning on closing any grips like the CoC or GHP? If so, which level can you close now?

so far i only have a vulcan gripper. I can no set close level 6 with both hands. my long term goal would be to close level 14 which is similar to a coc#3. but to answer your question more directly i would only purchase a coc so i can get certified, not to use as a training tool as i think the vulcan is good enough so far.

thanx for the reply

i bought mine from david horne's world of grip. it cost £56 including shipping.

if you live in america and shipping from david is to high for you, than the guys at diesel crew have some as well for around $110

http://www.dieselcrew.com/vulcan-page.htm

this may seem steep but its less than buying every coc

hope this helped :)

That is steep, considering that I will have to buy this to aid my training and also buy the actual grippers to prove to myself that i can close them... Craigslist time!
