EricMilfeld
Other than the one on the Nebraska farm, I unfortunately know of none We need some, especially in the Ft. Worth area
Tom of Iowa2
There WILL be one in Burlington Iowa. Originally planned for mid summer......It looks like it will be sometime AFTER the WSM .Some of the events- though safer than pro strongmen events- may be a little to 'hairy'for a top pro to risk injury that close to the 'worlds'. Although i sort of got the ball rolling I am not the promoter.(i am just too obnoxious to deal with ) It is being promoted by a guy who has promoted one Pro strongman contest, some powerlifting and a friend of his that does ultimate fighting promotions. It will have some very tough and very visual events. Some standard grip tests and some very different. In order to get sponsors it has to be more visual.Look in the gallery for some hints of the possible events and others are being tested regularly. They have some sponsors lined up and the prize money will be similar to a small-lower level-Pro strongman show....but for half the time of a strongman contest and less bodily fatigue and pain? The show Should be a good mix of strongmen and grip specialists competeing.Displays(and an opportunity to meet) world CHAMPION Ultimate fighters(no punks) along with some LARGE evangelists and even some break specialists. They are hopeing to create a freak show and carnival like atmosphere and make it an annual event. Assumeing the athletes show up? both ptomoters have said it should be easier to put on than a strongman contest or a pro fight....so i think they'll pull it off....under my tight supervision. .....well somebody has to think this stuff up. It'll happen. I would suggest you familiarize yourself with some 'tools' and I can assure you the opening weight on the wrist roller and any finger tip lifts will be HELLACIOUS beyond anything perhaps ever photographed? Emsquared
How far would people on here be willing to travel for a grip contest, if given enough time to save and plan. Matt
EricMilfeld
Being practical about it, with my large family and limited funds, I'd say a full day's drive would be about it.
AnimalCage
I went to Kevin Fulton's farm in Litchfield, Nebraska, last year for the 2002 SuperGrip Competition. What a blast! Grippers and the rest was mostly thick bar, with the last event being a farmer's walk with standard barbells. I came in last!! WooHoo!! Not bad for 37 year-old virgin competitor. I live in Indiana, so the drive was about 14 hours. Took my four kids, they were mostly bored. Well, this year I am moving to Massachusetts. If I want to go, I will have to fly, and without the kids. I am planning to go, but I haven't heard any news on it yet. Kevin occasionally visits and posts here. Kevin?? Kevin?? Kevin??
Rick Walker
I was actually thinking of hosting one myself sometime in the near future. I would have it here in my garage-the families would be welcomed as we have a pool-(kids would be occupied!). I have grippers, will have inch loadable (possibly an Inch ), have farmers (PDA), plenty of pinch instruments, outer limit loops, anvils, hammers, nails, etc. Also-there would be a nice pig full of chicken and a keg or 2 on ice afterwards. Plenty of cheap hotels in a 5 mile radius. I would want atleast 10 people to make it fly. Rick Walker
