It really sounds interesting and like it would be lots of fun. No way I can afford to go but if I can find all the rules etc - I could try some of them here at home and see how I might have done - just for fun.

The April 14-15 National Championship meet in Laughlin NV will be the inagural meet for AAU Feats of Strength. AAU Feats of Strength is a part of AAU Powerlifting. Four more meets are being planned for 2012 that will be joint AAU Powerlifting and AAU Feats of Strength meets--tentatively May 24-25 in Walnut Creek CA, June 2-3 in Moreno Valley CA, August 18-19 in Long Beach CA, and Nov. 8-9? in Reno NV. Others are in the works. If you are in other parts of the country and want to stage your own AAU FOS meet with your own events, please contact me. AAU provides insurance, awards, publicitgy backing, etc. We currently have a core group of 15 events with AAU-approved rules in place. We take events from grip, strongman, powerlifting, gymnastics, and track & field competitions. Grip events at the April 14-15 National Championship meet include the dynamometer hand grip test, 1-hand partial deadlift (with a rolling handle), and 50m farmer's walk with one turnaround. The 1-hand partial deadlift involves 3 attempts with progressively greater weights selected by the competitor as in a powerlifting competition. The farmer's walk handles are loaded with specific "standard weights" that vary per age group/bodyweight classification (see the "Weight Tables"), however, contestants can increase the load in 25 lb increments above their standard weight (no limits) to attempt a truly challenging weight.

Please note that there will be the AAU Powerlifting National meet and the ABA Bodybuilding Southwest Championships taking place simultaneously at the Event Center of the Edgewater & Colorado Belle Hotels/Casinos in Laughlin NV, April 14-15, 2012. If your powerlifting weight class is scheduled for Sunday April 15, you may make special arrangements to compete in powerlifting on Saturday and feats of strength on Sunday.

The meet has been retitled "AAU Powerlifting Feats of Strength National Exhibition". The new Division will be introduced over the next seven months as a pilot program with final approval as an AAU Powerlifting Division at the AAU National Conference being held in Hawaii in October.
