A Giant Has Fallen

A true giant in the strength world as well as grip has passed. 10 time World champion arm wrestler and two time World's Strongest man competitor has passed on. He was known for his huge hands and arm strength. It was said he could reach over a fence grab a pig by the foot and lift the thing clear over(I do believe it). I met him only once. At 525lb he sat near asleep on a chair his hand the size of a baseball mitt leaning on his cane. His name was called and he painfully rose and made his way to the arm wrestling table. No fire works, no warmup, dressed in street clothes. Cleve grabbed his competitors hand and in a flash the match was over. It was like a tree falling on the mans arm. Gosh, he was impressive. He was kind enough to take a picture together with me. My hand looked like a child's next to his. He will be missed.RS

I think Cleve was friends with Chad Woodall's dad. I remember this pic and Chad commenting that Cleve was just smiling and telling him to pull and he couldn't budge him. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q38RjnJKO3I/TVWx9F2jXYI/AAAAAAAAFzQ/b5RNAEuM8k0/s1600/cleveDean.practice.rable.jpg

This blog has info and photos from Cleve's career, be sure to check it out, the last pic has his handsize in it's true size: http://armwrestling24h.blogspot.com/2010/11/cleve-dean.html

Rest in peace.

This is tragic to hear, I always meant to go and see him and now that opportunity is gone. Never put off tommorow what should be done today. I am sad to hear the legend walks this earth no more. They should make a Cleve armwrestling event in his honor!

Wow, this is very sad news indeed. I wanted the chance to meet him as well (I believe he was a fellow Georgian like me) and didn't have the opportunity to do so. I remember Florian talking to me about him and getting that rare chance to meet him as well. RIP Cleve... :(
