OTTOEMEZZO
I am looking to buy a 28mm bar that has good knurling on it as well as some place where to buy weights for cheap. This will be for a home gym. Which sites have good deals and high quality?
climber511
Normally 28mm bars are for Olympic lifting - most bars for Power Lifting and/or general use are 29mm or thicker. So please explain the intended use. Lots of factors involved really - center knurling, how sharp is the knurling - how is the bar marked - what kind of flex is wanted etc. Good and cheap aren't necessarily exclusive but the two qualities don't really go together all that well usually. So in the end it comes down to how good and how expensive are you looking for? A little more information will help us help you maybe. OTTOEMEZZO
Yes, perhaps I should have went more into detail. The bar is intended for general lifting/powerlifting. In my gym, they used to have very nice bars - thin, good knurling, and center knurling. To me, they were perfect. However, they now renovated the gym and put in those shiny, slightly thicker, and smoother bars. I don't like them at all, especially for deadlifts and one hand deadlifts (no center knurling). So, I'm bascially looking for a nice sturdy bar that can handle some good weight, maybe around 600 - 700 lbs, just to be on the safe side. Hope that is more detailed, and I appreciate any help. climber511
Probably the most popular bar for power lifting is the Texas Power Bar - available from Elite Fitness and others - not dirt cheap but better than average for high quality bars. Another option is the 1500# bar from Jessup - it's thick but bull strong and really inexpensive. For plates I would go to Play It Again Sports and buy used - steel is steel and a paint job makes it all look like new. Neither bar is any good for Olympic Lifting but that doesn't sound like a priority for you.
