Table Top Wrist Curls

Who here has practiced the table top wrist curl? It seems like an odd partial movement designed to lift a lot of weight. I am curious about it's origin.

I have been doing them for a few years now :D seated at a table or standing in front of a chest level dresser. I first saw a pciture of this exercise in a 1920s/1930s men's magazine showing wrist exercises for polo players.

Sometimes I modify the exercise and let the hands hang over the edge. I usually use plates but sometimes use my hammer bars for some variation. Try hanging your wrists over the edge of the table while using a wrist roller, wow! :yikes

Sorry David no copy of magazine but I may have a photocopy of the article in one of my files. I'll take a look and see. I can't remember the name of the magazine. I'll think about it some.

As i said before it is easy to judge, far easier than any other wrist exercise I can think of. Big weights can be handles, yes, but that is certainly not the reason why we are going to have it at the next LGC competition. It is obviously important in competitions that the events are easy to judge. It is painful and not an exercise for wimps.

I have never done any kind of wrist curls in 40 years of working out. I may try seated barbell wrist curls instead of the wrist roller in the near future.
