EricMilfeld
We've heard about Washington crushing walnuts with his hands, and I found this site with a short story about Lincoln's wrestling prowess. In honor of President's Day, does anyone else have a story of mighty hand or overall strength of a U.S. president, or any world leader type figure, for that matter? Sybersnott
I have heard those tall tales and legendary stories of Lincoln's strength. He got it through hard and toiling work splitting rails and I even believe he did a stint as a lumberjack. Back in those days, wrestling was considered the national sport. Those men who were exceptional at it (the term for men who were pros at it were called, "hookers" ), toured the countryside and put on exhibitions and challenged the locals in matches put on by the promoters. If a certain local turned out to be real good, he probably was given the chance to join the troup and tour with the group of other wrestlers.
