Chalk

Do you use chalk? On which items? I understand the concept of chalk to help keep the hands from slipping on the apparatus but I notice a lot of gripper closure pictures have chalk. I don't understand the use of chalk with a gripper. Since the idea is to CRUSH the gripper, it doesn't seem possible for it to slip out of the hand. Is there another reason to use chalk on a gripper?

I've never had chalk on any of my grippers. Then I had the chance to try Tom Black's #3, and it had chalk on it... I kinda liked it. My hand didn't slip and the knurling didn't bother me.

I've recently been using sawdust to dry my hands prior to using my grippers. My hands don't slip anymore.

Although I've got some, I've never used chalk - it's just :happy gathering dust.
