Grip And Deadlifts

Thought: Because of having a big time grip you purposely grip your deads with a partial grip (more on the finger tips, ends of the fingers) to reduce the length of the pull.

An inch or two can mean a lot in a big pull.

Especially if it's a big weight.

DL'ing with me, it's like that saying, "The weight goes up or it doesn't". My grip won't fail me... it's the rest of me that I'm worried about!!

I've thought about trying that; and maybe after my deadlift meet on the 22nd I'll try it out. I do have doubts about my ability to hold it low enough in my fingers to make a difference. Although, since I've started grip training, my deads do feel "lighter" in my hands.

Whilst I think it might be a viable idea, it is a bit of a high risk strategy with the heaviest of weights. If the strength of the whole body is in line with your grip (which I suppose it should be) you may be too close to the limit for this to work too well (ie. if your hands can hold 400kg and you're capable of lifting 200kg, then fine, but your body should probably be a lot closer to pulling 400kg.....) in that the bar may be too close to rolling out of your hand.

I hadn't thought of that, Wanna. That may be a big help to me this season. Might become a bit difficult with a set weight that you just rep out, but for max attempts it may work very well. I'll try some lockouts one of these days with both grip styles and see what happens.

Thanks for the idea!

BC.
