If you had set the gripper further up in your hand, you would have closed it easily. You need to get the back leg up on the first line in your palm below your knuckles. Once you get the set down you will be killing that gripper and moving on to the 2.5. Once I learned to set properly, my #2 went from a problem that lasted for a long time, to closed on the regular, without chalk or even a warm up.
