Bill Piche
Please use the following guidelines when posting to the Gripboard. 1. Insults and flames on the board will not be tolerated. At the discretion of the moderators, if the violation of #1 is severe, it may result in permanent suspension. 2. No extreme profanity is allowed on the board. Profanity combined with the breaking of Rule #1 will result in automatic suspension from the board. An example would be "You are an asshole and don't know shit!" 3. No Ads or Spam. They will be deleted. A post will be considered spam if you basically never post and then out of nowhere post a link to a site you are associated with for either pulling traffic from the Gripboard or if you sell something on the site. A post will also be considered spam if you make a post with links in the body that have nothing to do with the post. Posting of links in signature lines may also be viewed as spam depending on the link. 4. Posting articles or paragraphs of copyrighted material without expressed consent of the author is prohibited. Simple quotes are ok. 5. Posts claiming World Records require a picture with the post. Cameras are cheap. If there is no picture with the post, the post will be deleted. We ask that you report ANY violations of these rules. Report any violations to the moderators. In the bottom right corner of every post there is a link which allows you to do this. We will generally not contact you to inform you of your rule violations nor will we provide explanations off the GripBoard. Not knowing the rules is not an excuse. Bill Piche
I put these up for discussion before adoption. Any comments?
Roark
I would add that whatever record, world or otherwise, is being touted, be in accord with the rules for that lift, not some version of the lift for which indeed no records have ever been kept. Personally I have zero tolerance for messing with history, that is my personal feeling and is not widely shared here, but I am not a moderator, so will make no further posts to the matter. OldGuy
I like the proposed rules, and hope that they are enforced for all members.
The Gripster
Wannagrip, I also like the proposed rules, although, I would not like to see anyone banned permanately.
mobsterone
Wanna haven't you had rules like this before? On the old board? Joe has anyone claimed a record this weekend on an official lift? One does wonder why now etc. No1: no problem as is No:2, No:3. No:4 is a little more difficult. I have posted sections from freely available material (David Hornes grip courses as well as IronGrip comp rules) as has Joe (Ironhistory). Please define consent. There might be a problem putting the rules for a lift up if the material they appear in is copyrighted (Milo/Ironmind brochure and so on). No: 5 and Joes comment. Where and what is the source for World Records regarding grip? Those that have been here for a while know that this is a difficult answer. The Rolling Thunder and Gripper, whether we like it or not, come under Ironminds rules - thats a given. Perhaps a good source/s would be 1) the IAWA/USAWA, 2) Guiness, 3)Irongrip and Kevin Fultons championship rules 4)Ironmind (as above) 5)history where the rules are laid down 5)any federation and or association where the rules for the lift are clearly stated and freely avaibale and repeatable (subject to copyright) here. 6) the person who designed and or made up the lift. Unless we join a grip lifting association and have set rules then a lift can be made up and a record claimed. Of course this is not going to stop anyone posting up the amount lifted and or pictures as long as they do not claim a world record.
Bill Piche
#4 - If you have the author's permission. The bad example would be going to some web site. Seeing an article. Posting the WHOLE thing on here and saying READ THIS. All done without the author's permission. Quotes and small excerpts are fine. In general, we've never had a problem with this here. mobsterone
Agreed. Perhaps a suggestion would be to post a link to the site where the info can be found and or emailing of the info between individuals and therefore not bringing problems to the site. paul valpreda
Have we had a problem with profanity (including myself) to bring these rules to our attention at this time? I am sorry if I have offended anyone and will not include such language in my future posting. Rules are good.
Nathan Say
I think the rules could be summed up in 1 of 2 phrases: a) we must all become uptight squares -or- b) simply treat everyone with the usual common courtesy as if we're in a room together or something. I don't think there have been any major problems with this yet, I mean it's not like DPF, for example. I like that thing about the record/pic. It reminds me of one time when I was hanging out w/a few other guys & we got to talking about training & the littlest guy (he said ~170lbs @~5'9-10 when he's not cycling) said he could bench 3 45s a side for 3-4 reps (he thought it was 295 when it's 315 hehe) & the biggest guy said "I don't know if I believe that. I think I'll believe that when I see it" & immediately the little guy changed the subject to one time some girl tried to 'seduce' him or something. But for #4 why not just give the source unless it says in the book/site/etc not to copy ANYTHING withough asking. Oh wait, maybe the rules shouldn't apply to us but only to Sybersnott. We can say anything we want to him & he can't do anything except be nice. That sounds fair. For the rest of us.
mobsterone
ha ha. I beleive we have had problems with profanity (isn't that a bad word? :P) with Scott Essery (according to Wanna) and the postings were deleted by the big W himself.
The Gripster
That was awhile back with Essery saying bad things to Old Guy. There was another incident yesterday from a different member showing that same disrespect and the entire thread was deleted, as it should have been. terminator
b) simply treat everyone with the usual common courtesy as if we're in a room together or something. I think this hits the nail right on the head. Even Snott, with his "computer karate" and all was a super polite, really nice guy in person. Tom Black
For the people who did not see the posts, Wannagrip is very quick in deleting such things, as he should be. Because of that many members don't see the offending posts. I think we should add something along the lines of Nathan's "in a room together." I was already thinking of something similar (Discuss things like you would with your co-workers or boss).
Bill Piche
Done. I added a line. Again, the forum rules link is at the top of the board.
Sybersnott
I got into it recently with a member of this board (no names), and he was really nasty to me for a comment that I had made to one of his posts. He IM'ed me several times and he and I exchanged blows and dissed each other. I then said to myself, "Why am I doing this?". I got on the phone and he and I got into a chat. I told him that I'm really a nice guy, but I don't like when people jump on me and tell me off. THIS IS MY HOME... and you don't take a sh*t in your own home. I watch myself here and yes, I have gotten into the deep doo-doo more than once on this forum (Wanna can tell ya). Basically, we are here to help each other NOT tear each other down! "Can we all just get along"....
Guest Hanover84
I just want to say as a lurker- thanks for keeping the board going! I don't have time to check in as often as I would like and I am waaaaay behind the learning curve but every time I do check in I feel like it has been worthwhile. So thanks esp. to you veterans who have lived thru the flame wars.... Rich
