gerryg
That thing just hangs from the door frame? I wonder if it still holds with a sudden shift of your body weight?
gripzilla
i wanted to buy that, but i don't know if it's for heavy people? I got one of these for my son. He uses it all the time (he weighs 180#). They work really well. If you use reasonable form they do not dislodge from the doorframe. The thing is that I believe the instructions set a 250# limit. I partially hung on it and I felt it starting to bend, but then I weigh 350#. I wouldn't recommend it.
climber511
A lot is going to depend on the door frame itself - what kind and size of trim it's made of etc.
dunebuggy31
I tested it out a couple hours ago. Its basically got a plastic bar that goes on top of the door trim (moulding), so its gonna hold as long as that door frame holds. Its rated to hold 300lbs. At a bodyweight of 175lb, it didn't show any sign of moving. Did a couple of weighted pullups at a combined weight of 225 and it still didn't really show any sign of moving or bending....So as long as my door trim holds, I'm gonna keep using this thing. Although, I gotta point out that I wouldn't try to approach that 300 mark without a real solid plan B. Overall, a very good deal for 30 bucks Edited November 14, 2008 by dunebuggy31
dunebuggy31
A lot is going to depend on the door frame itself - what kind and size of trim it's made of etc. Yup, I'd be more concerned about the trim and the actual width of the material the plastic wedge is in contact with....tried it out on about 5 different kinds of doors.....it did fine on all of 'em so far. sls61
Bought one of these at Sports Authority a few weeks ago and it is working fine for me. I weigh 165. Assembly took about 5 minutes but I will say that the screws are pretty small and are of crappy quality. I was also concerned that the lightweight metal and plastic of the structure wouldn't hold but that has not been a problem. The molding on the door frame needs to be in very good condition for it to work. Also be sure to use the enclosed safety clip that attaches to the door frame. When my seven year old son was doing some pull ups with a jerky motion, and prior to having the safety clip in place, the thing came crashing down - it slid off if the molding.
