JayPierce
Would I benefit from stripping the paint off my plates? Or should I leave them slick? I can one-hand pinch my 25's with either hand, and can get the 35's off the ground with my right, but the paint on these things is slick as snot. Even with chalk. Magnus
Well, if it's glossy paint, the chalk will make it worse. If you stripped the paint off them, then the chalk would help. The best thing to do with a really slick surface is to get your hands slightly tacky.
JayPierce
That wouldn't defeat the purpose of doing a plate pinch? I think I could get the 45's right-handed if I could get a hold on them. I just don't want to do anything that could be considered cheating. Magnus
No, it's not cheating. Right now, your giving yourself an unnecessary handicap by using chalk with slick plates. Either chalk + bare metal or no chalk on a slick surface is a more realistic lift. Edited September 3, 2008 by Magnus

As for painted ones...go for the tacky if you dont have anything else. Or chalk this up for you know your stronger if you get 2 35's with paint lifted..... If your going for a one handed pinch then go right ahead. A lot of times you'll see guys doing 2 45's or 3 25's with old york plates because they have a rusty, paint chipping off surface. jad
Do you just need paint stripper? I'm going to strip my Big Squeeze after BBB and just curious as to what the best stuff is.
JayPierce
I think I'll strip off an area big enough for a two-hand pinch on each plate. Thanks for the advice, fellas. Jad, I don't recall ever seeing a paint that wouldn't come off using Aircraft Stripper. It's available at AutoZone. Spray it on and the paint damn near jumps off the metal. I use the regular paint stripper (cuz it's cheaper than the aircraft stripper ), and it works great, but man, if you get it on yourself...burns like heck Edited September 4, 2008 by Magnus
