yodajaeger
Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding the strength of a grade 8 bolt, 6x1/4 1. It has a triangle on the head, is this a harder variant? I have a lot of problem to do this jump. 2 Does anyone have any input regarding the differences in difficulty between 6x1/4 square vs 6x1/4 Grade 8? According Eric Milfeld's calibration they seem to be quite equal, but the 6" square is rated higher in most peoples strength order... /Henrik

The 6" Square is much harder than the 6" G8.
Tim71
I have some of the triangle ones that are crazy tough. 495 lbs to be exact. Not all of them are like that but some are. The "JH" G8 bolts are about average I'd say so I'd try to get some of those. Yes the square will be harder in most people's experience. timiacobucci
I don't know your bending strengths but my biggest weakness is my kink. I actually do better with springier stuff like a g8 because it will flex out of my weakest range on the initial kink to where I can really put some power into it vs the square which does not want to start very easily. This makes the square feel allot harder to me and probably allot of other people as well. The square also ramps up at the end because it bends along it's edge and there is allot more meat relative to round stock on the inside and outside of the U to deform. Take a look at the difference in size between the outside edge and inside edge on the U of a peice of square stock that has been crushed down real good. The inside is like 2x bigger, that's allot of deformation and it makes the crush feel really hard on the square stuff. So even though the crush on the hardened stuff like the g8's is nuts, the square doesn't really give anything up to the g8 in that department either. Square stock is tough.
