After that success I got a bit bigheaded and went for a Huge Shiny...uh no...it was broken I think. :blush 2 degrees kink. Felt it most in my wrists, then my pecs, then my front delts. I don't know if it's just the increased number of guys who're using the modified DU method or what, but I've been watching more videos and it really is a simple form. I don't know why it took me this long to figure out the angles that were best for me. This definitely isn't a super strong style for me, but it really is intriguing because of the increasing pushing I felt had to go into the bend. I wonder if it would increase my kink or sweep strength on the normal DO. I may see if I can include little dollops of it in my upcoming KOAB training.

Booyah is the first one I can remember using the modified DU method. My hat's off to you Mike!!! :rock You've bent some serious shit that style. And the other styles, haha. :D

Same here. After watching one of Mike's videos, I went out a killed a G5 and you of all people know the troubles I've had with DU style.

Great job!

I'm glad to see you trying this. I knew that you would do some serious damage with this style. Keep it up. No wait, rest until saturday and then you keep it up! :D

Nice bending! I'm still new to the game but I would have to think one technique would help the other. Working the opposing action. Keeping the strength balanced. Am I on the right track here?

Well your not that far off-base that's for sure. Working all 3 does help all 3. At least in my experience.

Nice job Ben!! Once you get that form dialed, big things will fall for sure!!!! :rock I'm much more comfortable in that style with shorter bars(6'' and shorter). Maybe it's just me though!

Exactly! :D All steel bows to the shorty Glock.

Thanks Jason! I understand you addiction. We really ought to create a 12 step process. I'm going to have one of those "forced vacations" from bending really soon. My shoulders are crackling again. But I've got enough for the cert in a few days. Then I will either grow some willpower or lose a shoulder again.

Thanks David! Ha, I'll rest until Saturday man. :)

Thanks Zach! Definitely one of the best songs of all time, at least for me. Always gets me frothing on the inside.

Thanks a lot Carl! Great to see you joined up! I think you're right on the opposing action thing. My bending was always strongest when I was strong in DU too. So it makes sense that every angle you can hit the muscles with, as long as it's all bending, has got to be a good thing and have some kind of carryover.

Carl is an RKC and is already becoming a very good bender in a short while bending. I've been helping him out with some tips and a program and he's doing the hard part.

Thanks Jeremiah! I agree that everything feels better at 6" or less with that form. The 7" Bastard I did a few days before was harder than the Huge. Ah, the 7" Bastard was one of the 515 batch! That explains it.

The DU fever is spreading like the plague! :laugh:laugh Great work Ben!! :mosher

Haha! Thanks Paul! It is a plague for sure. Hope we don't turn into bending zombies.

Thanks Mike!!! :bow You should feel like a proud dad since all of us are using the style I think you developed and made popular. Everything is topsy turvy with my bending. I am definitely stronger now than I've ever felt. But I'm still battling the wish to bend a KOAB. There is a good deal of pain when I bend a 7" Bastard but not much when I bend a Mag Shiny. That really doesn't make sense even to me. Like I said earlier, I'll be forced to take a long rest or I can be smart and cut out the frequency and volume crap while I'm still able to bend. Should be a simple choice!

Thanks Alawadhi! I blew through that Grand in 9 seconds but that was pre-arm injury. I've got a bunch of stuff I want to give a try on Saturday but a Mag with the modified DU might just slip its way onto my list. :)

Edit: I think the Grand I'm talking about was actually done with my Gamidon pads, which were about the same thickness as the Ironmind pads. But I have done at least one Grand DU in the Ironmind pads although it was probably much closer to 30 seconds.

Finally saw the video Ben. Very well done. One of these days I'll get my act together and finally take down the Mag and beyond, or something tougher than the GB and 5/16" grade-01 drill rod at 7". As easy as you made that look with the modified DU and remembering how I was able to originally DU the Bastard, with my hands nearly touching in the middle, I say it's about time we hold another central states gripfest, so I can learn some new skills. Many pieces of steel will perish at our hands. Those that don't will make nice targets --- along with any beers consumed by me or Big Nasty --- to be dealt with by the shorty Glock :flame

Haha! Great idea Brad. I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago. It's time for another grip day! :rock

Thanks guys! On kind of a related note, I quit my weight training about 2 weeks ago to prepare for the cert by doing a lot more volume isos and some other bending stuff I've been working on. Turns out all that bending and isos is good for the arms. My arms have grown a full 1/2" in 2 weeks. And the weight workouts weren't heavy or even much volume...a few squats, few pullups, twice a week...so I don't think it was a spillover effect. I had only been working with the weights again for not even a month after a long layoff. I don't curl or do direct arm work either so that's not it. Pretty funny that I'm not even wanting any growth but it came anyway without focusing on it. Bodyweight is down to 211, lowest in a long while. It's pretty hard to measure shoulders, not talking about the circumference method, but my front delts especially have gotten a lot of growth from the past 2 weeks of bending-specific workouts. I was telling Josh that it's like my front delts have their own front delts, haha. :D

Ben, I know exactly what you're talking about. I haven't seriously weight trained in about 2 1/2 years, but all the bending and isos have gotten me bigger than I have ever been. Related to your arm comment, I went from 15 3/4'' to 18'' with no direct arm work! Before bending, I weighed between 180-190. After bending and being shoveled tons of food by my mother-in-law(loves to cook and feed me) I am now at 240. I have a little pudge, but not much. I am much thicker all over(esp. my traps and forearms), and am the strongest I have ever been. I am about to start serious weight training again focusing mainly on my legs. They're plenty strong, but I have naturally very long and lean muscles, and I want some serious wheels!! The added GH and test in my system from the leg work won't hurt my overall strength either! :D

That's some amazing transformation Jeremiah! You're a thick guy, I always figured you were a huge weight trainer already. Damn man...the steel shudders just thinking about you getting even stronger!
