From Goerner the Mighty p 118 comes this feat ascribed

to Hermann. John Dawe claims to have written this book

but allowed Mueller's name to be listed as author (see

ironhistory.com, search for Dawe)

GORNER handled a barbell in every possible position.

Grasping a barbell of 132 1/4 ;b. (60 kilos) withthe left

hand over the sleeve- 2 in. in diameter- and with the

right hand gripping the shaft tight against the inside

collar (closer than shown in sketch), Hermann performed

a Two-Hands Snatch from the floor, without moving his

feet! Performed on a SCHWEDLER-type revolving barbell,

on 27th October, 1931, in Leipzig.

This was done 71 years ago today. To approximate this,

put a 45 on each end of an olympic bar, tighten the collars,

go to one end of the barbell with your hands on either side of the 45 there, and without moving your feet, snatch the barbell. One hand with be grabbing 2" diameter, the other

hand 1.1" diameter, and about 4 or 5 feet of the bell will be

offset to one side as leverage against you.

Joe,i can manage this feat with 10 kilo plates on each side of a standard olympic bar without moving the feet .It works the obliques , intercostels and serratus muscles completely.

Goerner used a 6 ft Schwelder type revolving barbell, not a standard olympic sized bar. This would decrease the leverage quite a bit.
