OldGuy
Tom having to go to Home Depot to get some plumbing supplies, I picked up a length of 1/4'' x 48'' steel rod. My idea is to cut it down to 2 x 8'' 2 x 7'' and 3 x 6''. Do you think those are good choices ? Currently I can 1/4 bend a real 60 D nail. I imagine that with no point or nailhead to contend with it should be easier to bend a plain rod.
OldGuy
I have decided to cut just one at 6''. If I can bend that it will tell me where I stand. If not I cut one at 7'' and so on. This way is foolproof !
OldGuy
I like to answer my own posts! I cut off a 6'' length, and was able to fully bend it without cheating. Without the added pain of the point and nailhead, I was able to do it.
RSW
Hi Oldguy, The 1/4" stock I have bought from Home Depot was easier than any 60p I have encountered. Try bending some 3/8" Aluminum. It is much closer to the strength of 60p nails. Robert
OldGuy
I worked for many years in the aluminum business and can bend 3/8 '' fairly easily. I cut the point and head off of a nail and was then able to bend one. It was the point and head digging into my palms that detered me from applying enough force. I do use a cloth when attempting bends.
