Guest NailBender
Greetings to all grip athletes, I thought I would share with everyone something that I found to work for tendon pain/soreness. The procedure I'm about to share with you worked better for me than anything else I ever tried as a competitive arm wrestler for 15 years. I no longer compete except for one tournament a year, but I'm now using the same procedure for tendon pain from bending/grip workouts. Here's the simple but very effective procedure: 1) Fill a 12-16 oz. styrofoam cup with water and put it in the freezer untill frozen. 2) After frozen, cut about 2-3 inches off the bottom of the cup and you now have a way to massage the affected tendon with ice. You have the top part of the cup to hold on to so your hand doesn't freeze while massaging the affected tendon. 3) Massage the tendon where it hurts until the area is numb, this usually takes about 2-3 minutes. You can repeat this procedure every 20 minutes if necessary. 4) The advantage over ice massages versus ice packs is it doesn't take near as long to numb the affected area and the massaging itself helps out a bunch also. Ice packs are a minimum of 20 minutes. 5) I've found nothing that works as well as ice massages for tendon pain from workouts. 6) Recovery time is 2-3 times faster with this method. You can recover very fast from tendonitis with this procedure. 7) Remember, you can do this numerous times throught the day. Keep 2 or 3 cups in the freezer at all times and you're set. I hope this is as helpful to you as it has been for me. Try it, you'll like it! NailBender
TravisRush
This realy helps me with baseball too! Very effective! I suggest even doing this around the wrist joints for about 1-2 minutes to bring blood to the area and loosening it up before grip work
luuc
Thanks for posting, but I have a question (please forgive my ignorance); how should you massage the wrist/tendon? Is there some kind of tutorial video? Thanks.
TravisRush
Get the ice cup frozen...peel off the excess so you have something to grip...just rub over the area in whatever pattern you choose (circular is my choice)....hope this helps...let me know if you need more help
Guest NailBender
Thanks for posting, but I have a question (please forgive my ignorance); how should you massage the wrist/tendon? Is there some kind of tutorial video? Thanks. Luuc, if the tendon, for example is the one that runs along the outside of your arm from the elbow to the top of the bicep, you could simply massage the tendon long ways from top to bottom or as Travis suggested and myself the circular motion is very effective. It really depends on the size of the area and the location of the tendon. One thing for sure is it's very effective regardless how you massage the area. Hope this helps.
