Diesel Power forum has more details but here are some. The guy promoting this is "Tom from Iowa. Nice to see prize money for a grip comp.

We haven't got the date set in stone yet-we want to schedule it on an 'off' weekend so as to not interfere with any Pro shows or big amateur shows. We will leave it OPEN to pro strongmen, amateur strongmen and just about any gripmasters.Open.No weight class. No moving events at all.We are hopeing to get some of the guys that visited Burlington to come back....3 of them for sure have awesome grips(Tony,Phil,Neese)

Place: will be Burlington Iowa(same place as relatively well known but small Pro show-'Extreme Strongman Challenge'was held which was "pro debut"of Neese,Pfister,Scrivens,Rankin.Whit Baskin also Participated.Probably the same Parking lot across from Pzazz (Hotel/Bar/Food)

Date:Late June/early July?

Entry fee:$45(all entry fee goes towards prize money that is being raised with sponsors we have $550 dollars so far..expect more..then add entry fee...we expect 20 to 25 participants max)

Events:1)Milo Rolling Thunder for MAX wt.

2) Milo 'Block Buster'Pinch Grip for Max wt.

3)HAMMER STRENGTH 1/4 TON gripper Hold for MAX time(we have a Hammer Gripper with an extension on it 11 plates is 500 lbs. looks very impressive/visual and is hard as #### to do.I can only

hold 8 plates for 20 seconds but I've seen 11 plates done by 3 people)

4)PDA Gripinator LX for MAXIMUM weight(one hand)This will duplicate the exact movement of a gripper and we'll have aluminum handles to duplicate the feel.Maximum weight will win.

5)Self Supported Horizontal Wrist roller.

"Wrist roll" a small vehicle or sled approximately 20 ft. 1 3/8" wrist roll bar.Very simple but visula adaptation of a wrist roll.Instead of the weight going "up"the weight will be drug towards you.

6)"2 Arm Rope Hercules Hold" Competitor will sit with feet braced(similar to the begginning of the hand over hand rope pull)a 1 1/2in.(2 inches in hand)will be connected to an engine block/tranny that will be suspended a couple of feet off the ground.A forklift will release the weight and athlete will hold rope for time.(we may need to find something heavier..this seems to EZ for the big grip guys-I held it for 10 seconds and then it ripped off all my calouses.. but...thats me)

This sounds fun!  New twist in letting people compete in the events of their choice and offering prizes for each event.  I'll keep my ears open as it develops.  Hope it doesn't conflict with Adamski's strongman contest if he has it next year.

BC.

Hi, Jeff. I have a question.

On the 500 lb Hammer Strength grip hold, will everyone have to try the 500 or is just what each contestant can do? I ask because I can't imagine too many people being able to hold 500 with even two hands.

Hello from Iowa. This is MY first post.

It was a pleasant suprise to see that info.a bout our grip contest has made it's way over here. Now as a member of your forum I'll be able to keep in touch.

Our first contest in Burlington was full blown strongman and it was in Aug. OF 98.Please read Milo,Dec.Issue,1998 for futher info.

We hope to get some of those guys back...but ALL are welcome and this is a grip contest. Not strongman.ALL will be welcomed.

We have all Implements/equipment except for the PDA gripinator. Not 100% sure that it will be an event but we like the idea.We just need to research it more.We want to find out who has the best "gripper"type strength but without useing "GRIPPERS".What do you think of that new all in one machine from Sorinex??I've been to their site but not price..Whats it cost??

Yes the HAMMER STRENGTH 1/4 Ton hold will be the same for everyone-500lbs-some will NOT beable to do it.Some will.I'll explain more about prize money (PER event!)and points for the grand championship in some other Post.In that event the HAMMER handles will be lifted to the seated contestant. It's (maybe)impossible to do alone. We have a few freaky guys and we have to lift it to them.ITs' hard.I cant hold it for a split second and I can Rolling Thunder 190+.But this is for money and for the GREAT grips......but there will be a way for guys who are perhaps specialists or "gifted"in one area to earn some money and I'll go over that later..

Thank You for your interest.

Wonderful forum>Nice guys.Tons of info.Awesome.More later .

Thanks, Tom. It certainly makes more sense to have the handles lifted up to the lifter. I went to my gym this evening to try exactly the 500 lbs on a Hammer grip machine (I added a metal rod to get the extra weight on). I could hold 400 lbs for 15 seconds (keeping the handles touching) IF someone spotted me by bringing the handles together. If someone's out there who can squeeze 500 lbs from the full open position, heck, I might just have to retire from grip work! LOL.

Wish I lived closer to Iowa; I'd at least give things a try.

Good grief!you tried 500 lbs alone?!ALL the guys use a lift off(well there is only 3 guys that can do it and their grips are very good! ).Never say never though....somebody out there might do it.

400lbs for 15 seconds is good though.I held 8 plates, all our 45's are heavy and the extension we had machined is solid steel and weighs 7.5lbs.

Maybe 500 isn't enough for a pro :0 ?Nothing etched in stone yet .

Luckily, I was lifting with a woman who deadlifts 500 lbs. Her spots kept me from Herniaville. :)

Y'know, the other thing you could do if 500 is too easy for some of the big guys is have them stand and face the Hammer machine the opposite way and one-hand hold one set of handles, like a gripper crush hold. Put it in the rules that they can stabilize one knee on the seat, and I bet you'd see some ferocious gripping. Moreover, one-handed displays of strength (as Tom Black writes about with regard to one-handed deadlifts) are awesome to watch and even harder on the body to complete. Just a thought.

Again, good luck with that meet.

thanks for the ideas.really are good ones.

we have two guys with mind boggling rolling thunder lifts-sean McCabe and Josh Bigger and they find the HAMMER gripper at 500lbs quite a test INTERESTING though Joe Bigger(josh's uncle)is about a 217lb rolling thinder but he HOLDS the gripper the longest!!!It shows you how many aspects to grip there are.Josh does standing finger curls with 160lbs.-thats a dumbell, does em slow and strict, not sure how many reps, while standing and the arm is hanging  down, very slight bend at the elbow.i've been asked(TOLD) not to post anymore of his rolling thunder lifts: I.it sounds like bull####II.it will be a fun suprise at contest time III.if we get a great pic we'd like to send it to MILO to get it published and me blabbing about it on the internet will make it less appealing/interesting to the magazine.

anyway I think 500 or maybe 550 will be enough...sort of want the guys to be sitting so good photo op. for HAMMER STRENGTH.The 'quarter ton'thing makes a good press release to get local fans too.

We will have 3 one arm grip tests though. The Rolling Thunder. The Pinch Grip. And the Grippinator??(still researching this..but the lady that owns the gym said IF it's all its cracked up to be she would purchase one for the gym-and of course let it be used at a contest).

Also another research note: wrist roll....heh.heh..probably will be "ROLLING"a vehicle (small one!)about 6-7 ft.......LOL..2O ft. doesn't seem feasible/doable and will take too long.We want to get the contest over quickly so the guys can get on the road home.Make it "profitable"for a pro to do the contest.Again..anyone with a grip is welcome but we hope to have some pro strongmen there.(amateurs too)
