Hello,

When you bend a stainless bar, is it correct that at the point where it is bended, it ís a little magnetic?

Is it the quality of the bar?

I hope you can help me, Luuc.

The work hardening and heat affect the crystalline structure of the stainless altering it's properties.

Effectively changing the metal at the bend from an austenitic stainless to a martensitic stainless, thereby becoming magnetic.

I'd noticed this too. And clearly there is something going on with the steel structure. I've also reasoned that it might be a part of why stainless gets harder the further you bend it. That together with the big apex curve on stainless is probably why it get so hard.
