Guest champs Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 I purchased CoC 1-3 three months ago and have been working hard on them since then. When I first recieved the grippers I was able to close the 1 but not the 2. Progressively training on the 1 and doing the best partials I could on the 2 I finally managed to close the 2 about 1 month ago. At this point I started doing partials with the 3 (as far as I can go) for 5-6 reps, but I haven't noticed the improvements I had using this technique with the 2. I can get the 3 to about parrallel but improvement seems to of stopped dead. I do gripper work about 6 times a week, it sounds like alot but I don't suffer from forearm/hand fatigue the next day so I figure why not and the improvements were steady up until now. Routine: 6x2 coc#3 (partials) 10x2 coc#2 6x2 coc#3 (inverted partials) 10x2 coc#2 (inverted) 20-30seconds holding coc#2 closed 20-30 seconds holding coc#2 closed (inverted) I also use a weight leverage bar to work on wrist, and sup wrist work once a week. Whats the best approach to train for a close on the #3? Any help appreciated. Quote
Tou Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 There's no best approach but you can't go wrong with the classic methods. Give a try at strap holds. #3 at parallel is still VERY far from closed. Strap holds with your #2 and heavy weights for 5 secs sets will help you shorten the distance. Some people are fans of negatives. I did them too and they were very good. Experiment these methods and see the results. Quote
Mjoynt Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 I haven't closed the #3 yet, but I have a method that is working well for me. Try increasing the total number of reps with your #2 in a workout. For example, if you can do 3 singles with your #2, try to add a couple of reps each week on your #2 and in time you will be able to rep your #2. And progress on your #2 means progress on the #3. Guest champs Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 whats the best way to prep for a negative ? every method I've tried so far has never gotten me a good start perhaps my approach is crude. Suggestions? Quote
Tou Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Here's what I do with the #4 for negatives. 1. Positon it just like any other gripper. 2. Close the gripper as much as you can without assistance. 3. When you hit sticking point, help the close with your free hand (some do this on their leg). You should close the gripper completely. 4. THE MOST IMPORTANT. When the gripper is fully closed, release the free hand or the leg support and try to CLOSE the gripper. Don't think about lettting it open slowly. Try to CLOSE it. Do this for 5 secs and let it open smoothly. 4-5 sets of this with some heavy strap holds in-between will help you greatly. Quote
