Arne
At last the time has come! Next week I'm going to Luxembourg for my little research trip. I want to know if my scale is accurate enough. The scale is a calibrated german Dynavit Scale. The precision is ±100 gram. I this good enough or is even better accuracy necessary? I'm going to recalibrated the scale with 3 x 20 kg new calibrated Eleiko Competition plates just before I leave. I'm going to take every measurement in mm and 1/10 mm, and of course a very accurate description and a lots of pictures. At last I'll try to lift this two monsterdumbbells. Roark
Arne, How I envy your trip! Have fun. Of course your scale is fine! Various scales will probably offer slightly different readings but the important thing is to find out how close to 132 lbs and 143 lbs his dumbells with the 2.75" diameter (8.63" circumference!) are! I recently had occasion to weigh a Millennium bell on a digital home scale. The bell was too wide too fit properly, so I upended it (yes with two hands) and the bell offered 232 lbs. Not sure if that is right- sounds too heavy, but I did not have access to another scale. The only one more excited than I about your trip is you! Wonder if the foil is still on the bell, and how much thickness it adds to the diameter? Lucky you!

mobsterone
Have a nice time Arne. Joe re the MDB. As we don't make the bells ourselves and we specified a +/- of 5 pounds on the 100 kilo amount on the original specs we gave the factory I wouldn't be at all surprised if the bell you weighed came in at that amount. Given that there may be a little variance on the scale itself I would guess a few pounds down. That said that still puts it in excess of my MDB. To the best of my knowledge mines the only bell thats been weighed and measured other than the bell you had a feel off and I had to do it the way you did. If we made them ourselves and the factory cared about the historical accuracy then they would all be a lot closer.
