First, did you close your #3 without training your body (going to gym/weight training/overall body strength)? In other words, when you close the #3 did you only train grip and nothing else? Second, if the answer was yes (only training grip) did you train only on grippers or you did overall grip work like pinch, hub, RT,...etc?
