Bill Piche
This is one feat that seems to be elusive. Lots have done the thinner 45's. We know 1stCOC has done them. Maybe Wade Gillingham too I would bet. Scott Clayton? If I remember his name correctly.
jad
A couple of questions: 1. Do any fat 45's count or do they have to be the Old Yorks? If they have to be the Old Yorks, that could be part of the problem. 2. What is the minimum thickness required to qualify for this? 3. I remember reading something about how the lips don't butt up on the fat ones and that adds to the difficulty, so do the lips have to be rounded too? Thanks, Josh
climber511
Just out of curiosity I went out and measured some of my plates Barbell - 2.34" - the thinnest I own of quite a few 45s Older Yorks - 2.50" Neither Yorks are the "old" thick ones Newer Yorks - 2.92" Billiard - 3.4" The huge oddball 100# plates I have are 3.35" - and I have done these two handed once. I think it's certainly possible to do them, the narrow ones are easier and the feat is hard enough that people don't bother trying the thicker plates often - plus many gyms (and individuals) don't have the thicker plates any more. One small point is that the thicker plates also tend to cut the webbing like the Euro pinch does when wide - making it more painful to train. Yes - two plates That's a great pinch Chris. I've never seen a picture of someone doing 2x100 with 2H or even three regular 45s with 2H. 1stCoC
The "Old Wide Rim" York plates were discontinued in about 71' because of the 72' Olympics looked to a new design and with the advent of "Powerlifting" when the big plates just took up too much room with 700lb+ lifts. They are rare today and when 2 are put together in a pinch style measure 4" wide. They were not milled to size to fit and the lip is thin and rounded like the end of your little finger. When pushed together in a pinch they only touch "at best" at a few high points around the rims' circumference. The least disturbance or shifting sends them flying apart. Yes, the width is tough but the fit..now thats a whole different thing...I think it is one of the toughest of all grip tests I ever have ever mastered. The sloped hub of an old wide 45 is interesting as well for hub lifting.RS
maidenfan
I can pinch mine pretty regularly now at a hair under 3.5" for both plates. Chinese made CAP plates I believe.
