Mjoynt Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Anyone ever think of starting a race to be the next to close the #4? Maybe someone could write up a nice little article for MILO and explain the challenge and who's in the running. Also, whoever writes the article can mention that the Grip Board is where this little "challenge" originated. The author could also include the front runners' current training routines and such. Maybe someone could offer a prize to the next to close the #4. Free publicity for the Grip Board! Quote
mobsterone Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 What like a Grippage t-shirt?? :p Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
jimwylie1 Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 How about a muscle mob T-shirt signed by the thick bar daddy? Quote To those merry souls of other days- who again will make drinking a pleasure- who acheive contentment long before capacity- and who- whatever they may drink- prove able to carry it- and enjoy it- and remain gentlemen.
mobsterone Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 Pah seen that and wore the T-Shirt already. I have a few Embroidered badges left and was wearing one on my polo shirt at the grip comp. Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
Bill Piche Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 How about a: "It's Hard to be Humble" shirt for Mobster? :hehe :hehe Quote
mobsterone Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I do deserve one :p Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
paul valpreda Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I'm sure that a healthy cash prize would quickly motivate the next #4 crusher. Maybe we should collect donations for this prize? Quote
Guest 115-1005574997 Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 Steve How about a T shirt saying "Make my day Punk" with a photo of you in your 'day job' clothes mullering that #4 of yours Quote
mobsterone Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 NO WAY! Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
JeffPeterson Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Just being able to say I could close the #4 is incentive enough. Quote
Jeff T Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 A problem with offering any sort of valuable prize could be that you might find people searching for an "easy" #4, or trying to otherwise cheat their way into closing one just to pick up the prize Quote
Mjoynt Posted September 1, 2002 Author Posted September 1, 2002 You don't have to offer a prize. But, I believe an article in MILO about the #4 race would be interesting. They hype the WSM. Why not hype the #4 race. After all, only one other person has closed it before. Quote
The Mac Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 We have had the discussion about IP and other relative ratings of difficulty before, but a #4 is a #4 afterall. Recent attempts to close the #4 have actually included very sucessful crushers being sent/trying different #4's to try to find so-called "easier ones". This is only common sense. I think the submission of a (few) articles to Milo and maybe other magazines (if we could find someone happy to pen such a piece) would be nothing but constructive. Quote Chris McCarthy
mobsterone Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 Don't forget the promo for the Pullums event includes a little about an attempt on the number four. It doesn't mention the race. But is is going to be seen by over 300,000 magazine readers... Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
Rick Walker Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 I guess the only thing I have to ask is: What was Kinney's incentive? I doubt it was $$- Rick Walker :hehe Quote "I ain't afraid to die anymore...I've done it already."
Nathan Say Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 Why not have an incentive for curling a 45lb+ plate, pinch-gripping >100lbs on something wide or wrist curling >315 or some other equivalent feat of hand/grip strength. Here I go again saying there's more to grip than closing grippers.... :p Quote
Mjoynt Posted September 2, 2002 Author Posted September 2, 2002 I agree with all you guys. I know that closing a #4 is incentive enough, but I thought it would be nice to publicize this grip race. I definitely agree that there is much more to grip training than the grippers, however, only one man has closed a #4 and everyone here (I believe) is interested in seeing who will be the next to close it. Quote
Sybersnott Posted September 3, 2002 Posted September 3, 2002 To me, it's not that Joe Kinney closed a #4. It's the WAY he closed it. If you have the video, he places it in his palm, rolls it closed, and clicks it several times. That is freaky unreal!! I can't even begin to do that with my #3; actually I doubt I can do it with my #2! :crazy :0 :hehe Quote "I have always been strong. I can only imagine what it is like to be weak" - Arthur Saxon "Success cannot be guaranteed. There are no safe battles" - Sir Winston Churchill
ruffhans Posted September 6, 2002 Posted September 6, 2002 well, i have been thinking alot about the #4 lately. when i was training for the #2, and had about 2/4s inch on it to go, all i thought about was the #3! so i began training with the #3 after i closed the #2. now im about 2/4s inch from the #3, and guess what? all on my mind now is the #4. if i closed the #3 tommorow, i would be like hmm, not bad. then probebly pick up the #4 and start training with it. i dont think it very long before the #3. the #4 however, is one tough mamma!! i guess only time will tell. i would be happy if i could get the#4 a lill over half way ! i also think if grip training became as populer as bodybuilding, there would be #4s closed all the time! my wife is going to take me out to dinner when i close the #3!
