DAN PETERSON Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 I was wondering how many wrestlers there were on the grip board. I would like to know your name, age, weight class, style, and previous grip accomplishments. Mine would go Dan Peterson (obvious) 15 112 (last year don't know for this year) folk style I have closed the trainer in both hands the BB advanced in the right and the #1 in my right. I have other info like rolling thunder i may post later if this turns in to an actual topic. Quote St. Paul Minnesota
JeffPeterson Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 I would think that any grip work relating towards endurance would be a good way to improve a wrestlers grip. Maybe rolling thunder holds? Quote
dyoder16 Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 Dan, I used to wrestle, but now I do Judo/Jui-jitsu/NHB style. I do however coach Jr. High wrestling and weightlifting. We don't specifically train the grippers, but I've had about half a dozen close the trainer with both hands, a few for reps. Wannagrip pinned the post at the top, P-O weightlifting/Jr. High grip closers Our grip routine looks like this: Thick bar curls or Thick DB curls (alt. each workout) 3 sets Plate loaded grip machine 1 set Pinck block farmers walk 70 yards turk DB farmers walk 70 yards Afterwards I let them play with the grippers. By the way if you've closed the #1 you've got a great advantage over most kids your age. You know in a match the first test of strength is grip, when you first get a hold of each other. Quote
DAN PETERSON Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 dyoder what school or rec. or wrestling team do you coach on the extreme off chance that someday our teams meet. I wrestle for Cretin Derham-Hall in st.Paul Minnesota Quote St. Paul Minnesota
dyoder16 Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Sorry Dan, Not likely. I'm all the way in central Pennsylvania. Philipsburg-Osceola Area Jr. High. We are 25 miles away from Penn State. Some of my former wrestlers are out in college though. Jon Condo is a former heavyweight state champ and plays football now for the Maryland Terrapins. He's a second string LB and the starting long snapper. James Yonshonis just started wrestling for Penn State this year. I think they are projecting him as this years starter at 174. Good luck this year and remember: Train like a madman. :crazy dyoder16 Quote
RiotGrip Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 I was a wrestler many years ago (1995), I wrestled at 171 and 189(predominantly 189). I've closed a #3, pinched 80lbs with one hand, levered a 16 lb sledge hammer to my nose with either hand, and pulled 60lbs on either hand with Ironmind's outerlimits loops. I still wrestle with my one friend and former teammate who is now a coach. If you are wondering, I wrestled for North Allegheny High school in Western Pennsylvania. Quote Grip like you mean it!
dyoder16 Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Riotgrip, The fabled North Allegheny program huh? Impressive. Did you get to wrestle for D'Augustino, or his son? Quote
RiotGrip Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 dyoder, I got to wrestle with both of them, I got to practice with Gus D'augustino once when I was in 7th grade, that was the last year he coached for NA--however I saw him frequently until he passed away. I wrestled under his son Scott until my Sophmore year. His nephew George was the reigning coach of NA from 1989-2000, I did most of my wrestling under him. If you were wondering about how I faired against Teague Moore, I could kick his but routinely! (yes a 50 lb weight advantage and an average amount of skill will let you pin an NCAA national champion ) You can e-mail me if you have any other wrestling related questions.
