Roark Posted August 20, 2002 Posted August 20, 2002 I plugged the grip board in ironhistory.com this week. Now I will plug ironhistory here. In the Sep 6 column we will answer this question: who wrote this letter to me on October 28, 1985, which includes the following revelation: "Yes- I knew Hermann Goerner quite well. The book about him was written by me from notes supplied by Edgar Mueller. It was published with Mueller as the author as I wanted to give his name some publicity at the time (1951). He was a refugee from Eastern Germany (Leipzig) and was living then in poor circumstances in Braunschweig in West Germany." :0 Quote http://www.ironhistory.com

OldGuy Posted August 20, 2002 Posted August 20, 2002 Smith was my best shot, otherwise the only name I can come up with is John Dawe. Quote Not afraid to ruffle feathers!
ChrisJames Posted August 20, 2002 Posted August 20, 2002 Hello Joe , How about John Valentine or Irving Clark ? Chris Quote
Roark Posted August 20, 2002 Author Posted August 20, 2002 John Edward Dawe is correct. I will have a couple of his letters to me in the next ironhistory.com which reveal the sense of humor that Goerner had. By the way Chris, I'll be in touch soon regarding those questions; thanks. Does anyone know if John Dawe is still living? If so he would be age 93 on Sep 8. I tried calling a 15 year old phone number, and am awaiting a reply. Quote http://www.ironhistory.com
Sybersnott Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 It's one of the strangest stongman bios I've ever read. I'm not surprised that Edgar Mueller didn't write it. Roark Posted August 21, 2002 Author Posted August 21, 2002 Sir Snott. Your comment prompts me to ask what else you have read by Mueller to make such a comparision- that is, that it does not surprise you he didn't write it? Frankly, other than a manuscript that Dawe sent me in Mueller's own hand, I have seen only six other articles ascribed to him. Quote http://www.ironhistory.com
