Letting others try my no.1 and 2

I've let others try my grippers, heres the results-

Only one man at my gym closed the number 1. He got about as close as me to closing number 2 (about 0.5"). I weigh 70 kilos, he's about 105 kilos.

Nobody at work got anywhere near closing number 1. Same goes for friends.Closest was piano tuning friend (does a lot of work with his hands).

At place where I used to work, 110 kilo man nowhere near, yet 65 kilo man almost closed number 1-very close.

I suppose this goes to show that hand strength doesnt usually develop very far without specialist training.

I have also tried people on my grippers, 1,2 and 3. I havent tried so many but about 4 people have been able to close my #1. And these people who could, everone of them are manual labours. I dont think weighttraining help grip strength much.

I think weightlifting does help grip alot. I do not have a manual labor job that would increase hand strength. I closed my #2 two days after I got. If you keep reps low and weight high then I think you will build additional grip strength.

A friend of mine, who is a super strong guy without having doen any kind of training, closed my #1, #2 and BBM with a lot of ease. He came short by 1/8 on the #3 and 1/2 on the #4, all of these closes or attempts with no positionning and poor technique. Some people are simply very very strong.

He's the only one who closed any of my grippers yet. Some 400+ benchers failed on the #1 and a 700 deadlifter missed the #2.

No, he never trained with weights and never trained his grip. However, he is VERY strong at armwrestling, even tough he never trained for it, and he can deadlift cars from behind and front. He is VERY strong. A few sessions with my #3 and he would destroy it.

Of all the guys who've closed my #2, all (4) were long time lifters.  And all were extremely strong on most of the gym lifts.  One of the guys closed it on the very first try, actually grinding the handles loudly.  Three of the four closed it on the very first attempt, with no positioning.  Average weight of the guys was about 245 pounds, and one of them weighed 165.

Griparn-

"I dont think weighttraining help grip strength much."

I think that that statement is largely dependant on what kind of weight training one is doing and what kind of grip strength one is attempting to demonstrate.  I attribute my COC hold in the British Grip Champs this year solely to doing heavy farmer's walks for my strongman training.  I literally closed a COC inverted style only a few times just to get the hand positioning figured out for the contest.

Now if you're talking about using a pec deck to help you close a #3 then I agree with you totally  :p

I have taken my cocs to work with me and I had several guys close the 1 but nobody was really even close on the number 2..I have the double stamped 2 and what I have heard on the board is that they are harder so that might explain why nobody can close it.Most of the guys that tried it where in to the fitness seen..We have rec center where we work that is like a health club..ITs huge..The guy that I thought would just break my 2 couldnt even do the 1..He is close to 400 pounds and about 6.6.He played college football for a small school in Indiana.Grip is a strange thing, and im not totally sure why some people are very strong and the ones you think should be arent..Im still researching this

        good luck all

I took my grippers to work yesterday. The work is "manual labor" and I think it is much handstrength involved in the job when making the  products.

It was about 7-8 people that could close the #1. They said to me when I wasn't there, that one of the guys closed the #2. But he used his other hand to steady the "crushing" hand. And I don't know if that is a real close.

But it was intresting to test these grippers.

In the fitness test for my job they test your grip and then use that as an overall indicator of all round strength.  On the evidence here it seems that this is a dumb thing to do.

I have this guy work for me who is about 140 lbs max, yet he could close the number 1 on his second attempt.  Another guy, literally twice the size and who was a county powerlifting champion in his day (and he still trains) got no-where near closing it.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????
