New john brookfield grip tip

I think that anyone who wants to do this exercise in his routine should  haev a few months of lever lifting, nail bending, plate curls or wrist curls under his belt because if a beginner starts with this exercise, I can guarantee that he will break his both wrists.

You're right Nathan, it's sounds very hard.

Although I haven't seen it, does he give any sort of a warning as to doing this exercise?   ???

He did recommend starting with a 6 lb hammer if you had one, and he also posts those tips assuming that anyone reading them has a base in gripstrength to begin with.

I don't use the sledgehammer yet, but I do load up with 7 1/2 lbs on the end of a dumbbell and use that.  Not as hard as the sledgehammer toss, but I've incorporated it into my workout.  Gives you an idea just how much stronger you are in your dominant hand, that's for sure!  And, I think it works great.

New exercise! Plate tossing! Get a regular barbell plate, curl it up really fast so it flies out of your hand, catch it in the other & do it again & again. I was trying it with a 25 once & it slipped when I thought I'd catch it & it missed my foot by only an inch or two!

About this sledgehammer tossing:

I'm suprised nobody has really tried it.  I have and it's a great exercise (which isn't suprising since Brookfield suggests it.)

I have an 8 pound hammer so for now I have to hold about half way up the handle.  if you have a smaller sledge I suggest you use it instead of an 8lb.
