MalachiMcMullen
I work at a machine shop and have played with some longer 1/4 and 5/16 pieces(something wrong with that 5/16 though, way too easy conisdering the Red is 5/16) but now I'm going to get serious about it. My boss said if I wanted he'd order me some stock and I could cut it up there, so I was wondering if it would be more "productive" to get steel via work or get the IM nails. By productive I mean in terms of strength training for my wrists, would the stock vary more or would the lesser IM nails vary just as much? If from work what should I order in terms of CRS, HRS, SS, and the type of steel 4140, 1018 etc...?
dansweeney
What part of Michigan are you from? There is a steel supplier near me(Madison Heights) that I get 1/4" CRS round/Hex, and have gotten 5/16 CRS for AP here on the board. He said the 5/16 felt good and was comparable to IM stock. Tim71
If you order 1018 cold-rolled steel that will get you almost the same steel as the reds and such. I have some 1018 that cal'd at 445 lbs for a 7 inch by 5/16 piece so that's dead on par with FBBC stock. Get that and you'll be playing on a level field with everyone else. Good luck!
