My gripper hurts my hands.

I've been going thru the Iron Minds gripping progressions, starting with the "Trainer" and I'm now on to the #1.

I was excited when I got my "Trainer" in the mail, until I gripped it and the knurled steel shredded my hand. ???  It was really irritating my already inflamed calluses, so I took some old Grippers that I had in the back of my closest and slipped off the foam casings that covered the handles and slipped it on my Iron Mind Grippers. The padding on the Grippers works like a charm, but it doesn't take too long before it starts tearing.

What do you guys do to protect your hands from the knurled steel handles on your grippers?

Thanks for your help.

I used black electrician tape. Not my idea though, this was suggested a long while back on the board by a member when this was a topic.

You only need to tape one handle and that would be the handle you grip with the fingers. When your hands get a little tougher you can then remove the tape.

Electrician tape has stretching properties so as you tape it, stretch it, so it is a tight wrap.

using chalk helps too

With your interest in the Martial Arts, I would take the tiome to let my hands adjust to the knurling. It does wonders for toughening up your hands if you can take it initially. I havent used chalk on my grippers yet but definitly plan to as the heat has started causing them to slip which is really irritating..
