Just get a 6lb or an 8lb and start working out.. at first you might need to grab it close to where the head is located, but as you progress you go grabbing it from farther, farther, farther... eventually you'd be grabbing it by the very end of the handle! If you want a heavy hammer type device, just use an olympic dumbell: http://www.gripfaq.com/defimages/sized/swristleveragebar.jpg They're real cheap used, and it doesn't take much weight make the work hard.
