Crotchulla
I've been doing grip training since January and have been using the ironmind expand bands quite often. Are they just for rehabilitation and balance of the hand? Or do they help actual strength? I devote a bunch of time to them right now and I was just wondering if it was all needed besides a few sets here and there.
Chrisx9118
They are important so you dont obtain an alligator grip, strong close, weak opening power. Also helps muscle balance.
Blackheart
They are important so you don't?? Analyze again please.
unseenbeat
They are important so you don't?? Analyze again please. He's talking about the first thing only, an alligator grip, whihc I'm assuming refers to the fact that alligator's jaws can crush down with immense force, but do not open with much strength, so it is easy to hold them shut. I think working the extensors is important, to keep from getting tendonitis, and because you never know when you will have to use your strength. big bri
for me it's mandatory because if i don't i will get a lot of pain in my forearms and my hand. i don't use it so much for strength but to just allow me to keep training without any pain. DuTCH
It's helpful. I neglect it, but when i do remember to train them, i always feel stronger while using grippers.
amaury
It is important to train extensors if you want to develop a solid back hand slap. Just kidding lol. Just a question of balance: working only the flexors is like working just the biceps and not the triceps, just the quads and not the hamstrings, etc. I think it is well known now that imbalance leads to injury in the strength dpt. Crotchulla
Thanks for the help guys. I usually train them, but just all the time and didn't know if I was wasting time with all the extra effort.
WildGorillaMan
If you consider not needing to go to physiotherapy important, then extension work is a reasonable priority.

I don't know if they exactly help with strength but they do help with muscle imbalance. I went through (and still go through when I don't do extensor work) where my hands get a real bad tingly feeling in the back of my hand.. I then do extensor work and it helps get rid of it.. Personally I try to go heavy on them.. 25 white in each hand, 15 Green each hand, 10 yellow.. I also then do five rotations with each hand.. once counterclockwise and then clockwise
