Roark
During a brief intermission, let me refresh my challenge that no one has ever deadlifted two Inch replicas as the same time, one in each hand. Since it was my idea, I will defer being first. Modesty, you know. My suggestion that this be tried at the Arnold Classic this year was thwarted. Is there anyone who can perform this feat? Bill Piche
Why thwarted? Seems doable by someone who has already lifted it.
Roark
Wannagrip, To my knowledge nobody has done it- one bell in each hand, deadlifted at the same time. For those who use the free-hand-on-knee method while deadlifting the Inch replica, that method cannot be used because the free hand will no longer be free- it will be lifting. Most of the strongmen at the Arnold failed to deadlift the Inch replica, a couple could not get it off the floor, a couple got it a few inches, but it was obvious that lifting one in each hand at the same time, would be more than only 'twice' as hard. jimwylie1
Perhaps it would be possible to get two replicas at the AOBS dinner for the attendees to attempt. I'm sure someone could manage this feat? I believe that if you could lift a replica in either hand, then it would be possible to lift the two bells together and take them for a walk. More difficult than lifting one at a time, but far from impossible.
Roark
Jim, Right, not impossible, but so far getting a capable man in the same roon with two replicas has not happened. Who will be first. I believe there are a few men who could be it if two bells were in their neighborhoods.
mobsterone
With training of my left I am certain - put up some money baby! :p
Roark
Ah Cash, Corruption Comes Carrying Two Inch Bells. Here is your chance for immortality, or at least to be known where the gents tip a pint or two, and you have sullied the matter away from suds to silver. I am hurt (and broke). Nathan Say
Jim Wylie won't have much trouble doing that soon. See that pic in the gripgallery of him doing a FW with 78/72 or something?
jimwylie1
Nathan I understand that deadlifting a replica is quite different to using a plate-loading handle. I've never had the chance to make an attempt on a replica so I couldn't speculate on my chances of pulling off the double. The weights in that pic are actually 78kg and 61kg (the 61 is also on a knurled handle). The 61kg was pretty easy though, and I have done the 78kg with the left hand on the non-knurled handle in the past. I didn't try loading any more weight on the dumbbell that day - the attempt was on the spur of the moment as David Horne and Scott Essery were playing with these dumbbells when I turned up at Dave's house following a shopping trip. Next time we have a play; I'll load them both up to 78kg and see what happens.
Guest baldy
I am pretty sure that you could pull and walk with 2 replicas Jim. Maybe you will happen across a pair sometime soon.
Guest 115-1005574997
Jim How about a big 3 way head-to-head. Dave 'the legend' Horne v Steve 'Mobster' Gardener v Jim 'the destroyer' Wylie in a 2x Inch Dbell deadlift and/or walk. Hows the training going for the MD? Maybe incorporate the MD attempts into the extravaganza
Guest
Could be interesting. If Steve wants to bring his plate loader to the comp maybe we could have ago at this the day after the comp?
Guest 115-1005574997
are you up for a challenge Steve? Sounds like the makings of a good article for MM
mobsterone
Hmm now theres a thought... I use my 2.5 inch handle on a power rack pin (about 2 feet in length). If we could have the same length rods and handle dimensions... Plus as I don't do thick handled work with my left we could ned up with the 10 kilo left 100 kilo right. What about a) double deadlift and or b) single deadlift max weight. I fancy my chances in the second - knackered hands allowing
jimwylie1
Steve You'd win the single lift hands down I think we should stick to the original idea: 2 dumbbells with 2.5" handles loaded up to 78k each - pick 'em up and walk as far as you can. mobsterone
But I like the toes on my left foot :crazy Put me down - win lose or draw it'll be fun
David Horne
Yeah, put the old guy down for a play as well. David
Roark
Very well. But please keep in mind the large difference between an Inch handle and an Inch replica. Steve, did you not have to master 222 lbs, or so, on a handle before you could actually deadlift the Inch?
mobsterone
212 lbs
RSW
Very well. But please keep in mind the largedifference between an Inch handle and an Inch replica. I think that depends on your lifting style. Remember Steve braces his forearm against the plates. If you lift straight up and down, I don't think the difference is so great. When I work up to 173 lbs. on the PDA handle I will see if I can budge an inch replica. It will be a while though, since my personal best is 130 lbs.
