Sybersnott
.... I sure hope WannaGrip doesn't read this.... http://pslgroup.com/dg/e0eb2.htm
Guest DavidHW
I prefer this study: http://jama.ama-assn.org/issues/v281n6/abs/jbr80447.html "Conclusions Among healthy 45- to 68-year-old men, hand grip strength was highly predictive of functional limitations and disability 25 years later. Good muscle strength in midlife may protect people from old age disability by providing a greater safety margin above the threshold of disability." FWIW. Bill Piche
I am stopping grip work immediately and taking up basket weaving.
RiotGrip
a point that the first article failed to mention, was that the joint of the base of the thumb is the most common place for anyone to get osteoarthritis, and other areas of the hand are very common too. Sybersnott
Hey Wanna, Didn't you say you always wanted to start your own basket-weaving business?? I'll order a few.... :p :p
Guest 115-1005574997
David Just goes to show that there are always two sides to a 'scientific study' and im glad i did a science degree to understand how dangerous it can be to take a report at face value. Well done for finding the more sensible and common sense counterview.
Nathan Say
That means Wannagrip will shut this page down & start up the Basket Weaving Board I guess. :p
Roark
Weave a waste-basket, and toss those studies in it! How many of our grandmothers had arthritic hands and would have no prayer to close the trainer? My grandmothers could not pinch grip two 5-lb plates, but they could sure fill a plate with some apple pie! Of all those who suffer arthritis in the hands, how many would have been grip fanatics, .01%?
Rick Walker
My hands have always hurt. I have broken several fingers and knuckles and they would often just ache like heck. Since I have been training grip, the pain is only present during the actuall workouts. All other times, my hands feel great- Rick Walker :hehe
Guest mikebyoung
Have there been any studies linking basket weaving to arthritis? If I keep my hands covered in bubble wrap for the rest of my life, would my chances of becoming arthritic decrease? Hmmm, Mike
Guest RobbyTooSlobby
lol Mike...I would advise you to have very soft tissue underneath the bubble wrap just in case.
