jimwylie1
Is the nearest airport Geneva? How far is Les Rasses from the airport? Is it possible to get a train?
DuTCH
Yes, geneva is the nearest airport, and last time David picked up the fella who came arrived at the airport, so guess that's your best option..
the swiss
Dutch: in fact no one ever came by plane to the comp, but it is feasible. Jim: two options: plane to geneva and then train (about 1h30) (or maybe some competitors from geneva can pick you up), or plane to paris and then train to pontarlier (france) and I'll pick you up. would you consider coming??? oh and the date is probably going to be the 29th of April. jimwylie1
Thanks David. Yes, I would consider coming - it looks like a fun contest and I get compete against the European Champion How far is Pontarlier from Paris and Pontarlier from Les Rasses? Jim
the swiss
excellent! Pontarlier is 3 hours train from Paris and 20 minutes drive from Les Rasses. David ps: the present record to beat is a 15 hours trip from holland (held by Theo)
amaury
Not sure it is worth mentioning it considering i will only do few trainings for this comp but i'll come. As usual. Jim: Pontarlier/Paris is 4hours. Pontarlier/Les Rasses i would say20/30 minutes by car. 3 hours David ? I thought it was closer to 4? Anyway
the swiss
Amaury: that's because you don't allow me to drive normally (Jim, do not worry ! ).
FrankyBoy
Would be great to meet you again, Jim. Hopefully you can make it. Thanks David. Yes, I would consider coming - it looks like a fun contest and I get compete against the European Champion How far is Pontarlier from Paris and Pontarlier from Les Rasses? the swiss
Date will be April 29th. Jim: best option for you is probably to go via Geneva and then train to sainte-croix.
the swiss
Little update: John Beatty will be sponsoring the contest, which is really cool! oh and we have a good chance of having Switzerland's strongest man competing!! farmers hold will be 100kg a hand, and wrist events will be 15kg plate two hands plate wrist curl for reps and possibly front lever. david
jimwylie1
Couple of questions David: Will the rim lift be included? Will you be publishing the rules for the event? Can you describe the scoring system? Will the v bar and thick bar lifts test both hands? How many attempts are allowed per event? Thanks Jim
the swiss
Jim: rim lift: yes most probably (make that yes) both hands will be tested in all singled handed events. the SGC is a very relaxed competition: attempts are not limited (a maniac failing 15 consecutive times and asking for some more WILL be stopped though), judging is fairly relaxed. Will give some more details on the rules though. scoring: usually ten points are given to the best performance in each event, and other performances earn a proportionnate amount of points. if the best lifts 100kg and you lift 89, you get 8.9 pnts. david
FrankyBoy
(a maniac failing 15 consecutive times and asking for some more WILL be stopped though) I don't like that rule!!
the swiss
specially if he's bleeding all over the place, Franky
jimwylie1
Sounds like my kind of competition . The rim lift if the only event I don't like.
Marc
I am going to try and get over to compete if that’s OK, Jim has talked me into coming Just got to find someone to have my kids that weekend
FrankyBoy
Uh, Marc. Actually I wanted to come unprepared. Now I have to go and train a bit. But you probably will kick my butt anyway. The Wylie brothers in switzerland, that would be too cool!
jimwylie1
Don't worry Franky I'd bet good money that Marc will complete zero preperation for the contest. I'll be having a go at the lifts in preperation but I don't intend to do any event specific training. Will you be taking along your little big horn for use in the comp? David, I have another question: will the rim lift be performed on a standard barbell?
FrankyBoy
Sure, I'll bring the little big horn with me. And some other goodies (MOST probably beer ). When we tried the rim lift, David used a pipe/bar through the plates, pretty much like the 2-hand pinch apparatus you know.
Marc
It's looking good for getting over (The ex is going to try and get some time off) Jim, i might suprise you and do some training Franky you beat me last time so you should have no problem again
David Horne
Sounds a fun time!
FrankyBoy
The SGCs are really pure fun. Many crazy guys from different countries. The SGC is still my favourite contest.
