Guest Jeff Roark
I read over at Brooks site that a man named Earnest Cadine "supposedly" one hand deadlifted Apollons Axle! that seems to me another unreal feat! I have never heard of this man. Joe any info one the validity of this?
Roark
Willoughby mentioned Cadine in Ironman Sep 1977: "Cadine has also been credited with lifting one hand the 367-pound 'car wheels' barbell that once belonged to Apollon.....If Cadine actually made this lift (on a bar so thick that no hooked grip or thumb-lock could be secured), it would constitute one of the greatest grip-lifts on record". Keep in mind that Cadine stood only 5'6" and 198 lbs. I have never encountered mention of Cadine's hand length, but one would suppose that a man 5'6" would not have extra large hands. But that's a guess. The thing that has always bothered me about this claim is that the feat is not attributed to Apollon also, who,( based on their other strengths) would have been more likely to accomplish it before Cadine could, but I have not checked all my references on the matter, so I don't have an opinion, except to ask when, where, witnesses etc.
paul valpreda
This could be another one of those myths that circulate. If the feat was true, there has to be some proof or validation somewhere. If nothing exists, it's just somebody's tale like so many of the old-time tricks we hear of. Once again, this is just my opinion.
