hey fellers,

just wondering about ur position on whether warming up before going for a goal gripper is a good idea?

or just warming up in general before u start gripping away.

if so, what are some exercises u guys do to get loose?

thanks

yea, warm ups are good for me. i go from 4 to 3 to 2 fingers and then to inverted with the beginner and #1

Warming up usually depends on what stength level you are at.

When I was only capable of closing my #1, I didn't have to do any warmups. I could go right to the #1 with no problems.

Now that I'm closing Elites, jumping right into closing them is not the smartest or most effective idea.

I usually do some MMS closes with my Master, then my Cert #3, then work with grippers that are all above my Cert #3 in difficulty. So usually not a huge warmup, but something to get the blood flowing to the hands.

When I'm doing TNS work, I warmup with a lot more volume than with MMS closes.

Single overcrushes on the trainer, #1, #2, SM, and then I'm ready to go for the work sets.

And before this I usually pace around and get as angry as possible to get the blood flowing and the temperature up.

Usually my gripper closes are done while weightlifting, squats especially. Can't really get too much more warmed up then while you are squatting heavy.

Bench press works well to get me primed for grippers. I would have expected it to fatigue the wrists, but it doesn't seem to take anything away.

This is what I do. Suqats work very well!

I only say this to say DON'T DO AS I DO.

I don't really warm up for gripping or bending which is probably not the brightest thing to do. I do crack my knuckles, and bend my fingers back sometimes. I wonder if I warm up would it help or hurt my efforts?

This is a question I must answer for myself in the near future.

Thanks for opening up this topic slickrick08 so I can get some ideas of what works for others.

Sometimes I do. It really depends on if I remember to or not. Not very much though. I couple of squeezes on something lighter than I am going to work on like a BBM or SM if I am working on mty #3's or Elite. Other than that, can't say that I do.

As of lately I don't warmup at all. But usually my best gripping comes later at night after a workout in the gym. Should probably start though.

When I did the MMG1 cert, I did that cold... no warmup at all. I just took the gripper in my hand and closed it.

That's just me - I've found out that I'm at my strongest without a warmup. I say, try it both ways and see what works for you. You might just NEED a warmup before getting to close those grippers; then again, you might not need to. :)

Rubber ball squeeze followed by lite reps on my ISG seems to do it. If I try heavy closes cold my hands pop and crack quite painfully.
