20lb Sledge And Bb Pro

I got a gift certificate to amazon.com and I'm looking for a 20lb sledge, possibly a a 16 and a 20 but a 20 for sure. I found some Olympus ones that are reasonably priced but they want 1.49/lb shipping which is just retarded. I found this one but the picture looks shady and I've never heard of the brand. The price and the shipping is pretty good. Anybody know anything about these or have any comments or suggestions. All input is appreciated

I got a BB Pro with 1/4" mounting for Christmas. I ordered 2 3/4" spread and it came in around 2 11/16". I'm sure it's around 2 5/8 now that I've seasoned it. What's the difference between a Pro and a WC? The spring size is the same according to the chart in the FAQ. Do the Pros have a narrower spread or shallower mounting? Again, thanks for all input.

http://www.mcmaster.com/ Try Mcmaster -Car for your sledge. Type in sledge hammer in the product finder to the left. They have a 21 1/2 lber for $36. Yea I know, can`t use your Amazon GC there. Just another option if you are unsure of the Amazon sledge.........

The Pro has a spring wire dia of .331, The WC is .351. The info you read in the

FAQ is incorrect. I have both, Pro and WC. No comparison believe me! :)

Thanks Rick, these are the ones I was looking at orginally, but they want 1.49/lb shipping plus the flat fee of like 7 or 8 bucks. I don't know what the heck that distributor is smokin'. Longstory short, when I went to order it, it was like 90 bucks and some change. I'm not paying almost $40 shipping and handling on a $50 hammer. The one I posted the link for is priced right, shipping and all but the picture makes me wary. I'm not going to be doing anything with it but levering it, so I guess it wouldn't have to be real sturdy, but I dont' want the freakin' handle to snap when I try to lever it. Thanks again for researching it though.

Maybe your local Home Depot or hardware store, will order a 20 pounder in for you, from their supplier. You may not even pay for shipping. Then you can use your Amazon card for something else? :D

Check out this pimped-out hammer:

http://hammersource.com/csw.html

$189!

There was one on Amazon for like $489! I think it was an Ampco and it was non-magnetic, non-sparking, and bunch other stuff. I think they said it was German made or something. It's still 5 bills for a sledge hammer :blink

My experience with Mcmaster with shipping quotes, has been that they add the shipping cost after the order has been placed. They will notify you via email the shipping cost with the invoice. You may just want to call them and get the quote. Their customer service people are very helpful.

McMaster has unbelievable service. I ordered a pair of hex head allen wrenches for taking apart a hard drive. They arrived at my office a few hours later, with standard shipping. I work in downtown Chicago, but this was a $9 order including shipping.

Quite a few retailers deal with McMaster - if they are willing to order it along with their regular order, you might not even have a shipping charge.
