Small Hands Good For Bending

most people would agree that having larger hands is better for closing those grippers (more leverage) but what about bending short pieces of steel? So most people would say that 'genetically' (sorry, i'm not one for spelling) bigger hands are potentially stronger, but with nail bending someone with small hands has more leverage and can get a better 'grip' before bending. has anyone else on this board ever considered this? So, this could be the great exeption to having small hands?

I'm not a bender yet, but based on what I have seen; a large handed person could and often does compensate with a lot of wrapping on the ends of the nail.

I have no statistics other than my own so I will provide my informaton to help build your case between large hand and short hands in the bending arena.

4" IM Blue Nail

FBBC 1/4" x 4.5" BAR

4.5" Grade 5 Hex Bolt

Sorry No Photos For These Bends (My cheap digital camera died before these were achieved)

FBBC ¼” x 4” Hexagon stock

5” Grade 8 Hex Bolt

4” x 5/16” HRS

Longer but hard none the less

6 ¼” x ¼” FBBC Square CRS

Red Nail

I seem to have more problem with the 7” stock than the shorter bars, bolts and nails.

You have 7" hands too?! I have a new hero.

If this is true about bending, than I love bending even more.

I'm a firm believer that Gamidon avoids excess grip work so his girly mitts don't get any wider or thicker ;)

My palms are 4.25" across so longer bars fit better in my hands than shorter bars. As Starkmann said, I can compensate for that by adding more padding on the nail but that takes away from the challenge. Of course, the extra padding only helps the initial bend to 90 degrees. You can tell if a person is using too much padding if they never get any hard bends past 90. I should know - just ask anyone about my "handlebar" wraps! haha

OUCH!!! :D

I think small hands make short bars easier. When I go for small stuff I end up bending into my own hands and crushing whatever gets in the way. If I had bigger hands there would just be more in the way.

i was thinking the same thing when i started bending but i think that shorter hands are better for small nails.
