supermagnamon
I was doing a search on the leather pads that I bought from Michael's. They are a bit expensive, but they're great leather pads for bending. They only last about 5 months, if you bend at least once a week. I've already had 2 pairs and wore them out within that time frame. http://www.leatherfactory.com/index.asp?St...iew&ALU=4040-01 Edited November 10, 2005 by supermagnamon
Muscle Turtle
theres something wrong with that link mags, you wanna fix that for us? how much, where abouts?
EricMilfeld
I have two locations to choose from here in Cowtown. I just bought what looked like a whole cow the other day for about fifty dollars. A three to five ounce weight works nicely. By the way, for each one ounce increase you're looking at abouty a 1/64" increase in thickness. supermagnamon
Eric's site is better. Sorry about that Turtle. Here's the exact piece that I bought: http://www.tandyleather.com/prodinfo.asp?n...item=8&mitem=43 But I think I'll be getting this piece instead, since it's cheaper: http://www.tandyleather.com/prodinfo.asp?n...item=6&mitem=

steelbiceps
I'm just getting started in bending, and rather than special ordering anything, I'm eyeing and old shammy. Before I ruin it, how would that do? -Stan
Anuwbius
Oldtime, are you sure there is a difference between what you purchased and the dark stuff gripperman just got. They are the same oz (3-5). They look like they are just different colors. Just want to clarify for future purchases. thanks.

The only difference I see is the color as well.
TennisDude
I'd go with what Oldy said. He tried both pads, so he'd know. I myself am purchasing the lighter colored ones.

All elather varies if you look at it you will notice it says 3-5 so maybe its 3... I bought it, used it and hated it. I would just go with the tan peice. Cunny
Do you just use one pad or two. I went to a local material shop toask for some off cuts but had no luck
Oldtime
buy two.. If memory serves me correctly, each peice is 8 1/2x11 inches. This is how i made my pads: Get one of the 8 1/2 x11 peices and cut it in half length wise, giving you two 4.25"x11" peices. Do the same with the other peice, So now you have 4 4.25"x11 peices. Cut the second pair in half, giving you 4 4.25"x5.5" peices out of the second pair. Take one of the 5.5" peices and wrap it together with the 11" peice. giving you a wrap that is 16.5" long and 4.25" wide, unrolled. Do the same with the other pad, and you got yourself a pair of pads, You also have a pair of backup pads, once the first two 5.5" peices get chewed up. Now 16.5 is a bit too long, so trim them down to the length you want. Edited November 26, 2005 by Oldtime
EricMilfeld
I like to buy one big piece and cut 4" wide strips, which I can then custom cut to length.

TennisDude
I bought mine and they felt so comfortable against my skin that I fashioned a loin cloth out of them. This led to some extreme PRs.
Grh122
I like to buy one big piece and cut 4" wide strips, which I can then custom cut to length. ← I got my order from Tandy leather today and did this and it worked out great. I ordered the "Economy suede split". http://www.tandyleather.com/prodinfo.asp?n...tem=10&mitem=
