RSW
I started nail bending a few weeks ago with the Ironmind Bag of Nails and have progressed to kinking the yellow in the "Slim style" technique (palms down). I was wondering which grip exercises (aside from bending) have the most carry over in to nail bending. Thanks, Robert
BarBender
Nail bending and nail scrolling will be your best nail bending exercises. Lever work and lifting thin objects may also help. Good job on kinking the #3 yellow nail.
RSW
Thanks Barbender. I guess I will buy some hot rolled stock and a pair of boltcutters. Robert
terryduty
RSW, instead of bolt cutters, you might want to try cutting the metal with just a raw hacksaw blade in one hand and the metal being cut in the other. By the time you finish cutting a 6 foot rod into smaller pieces, your hands have received a good work out! Train smart!
RSW
I just U-shaped the Ironmind Yellow and put a 30-degree kink in an Ironmind blue last night, using the "spike-bending" style. I have been training with progressively shorter pieces of 1/4" HRS stock from home depot. I then tried a 60 penny nail, but could not put a kink in it ! Thanks for all of the advice ! Hopefully i will be conquering my 60 penny nail soon. Robert
terryduty
Richard, congrats on the Yellow! I'm sure that 60d nail will be yours, soon! What length of 1/4" hot rolled steel (HRS) are you bending? Train smart!
