Bill Piche
After many MM certs, here's the main things the witness should focus on. To get the gripper sent to them and open it on camera. Insure the proper video setup such that a close still of the handles together can be taken from the video. The video cannot be shot from many feet away. The angle has to be correct with no shadowing otherwise the close cannot be seen where it's clearly shut with handles together. To remind the athlete about a clear parallel set and that the setting hand needs to be pulled away for this to be clear on video. Make sure that between attempts that the gripper stays on camera and the video continues to run. Judge so that he helps the athlete by telling them if it's no good so that the athlete takes the other two attempts. Works with the athlete to return the gripper in a timely manner per rules and that proper video gets sent in either by email or snail mail. Here's some common mistakes made for failures in attempts: 1. Not getting a a clear video of the legal set. The hand blocks the set. 2. Not getting a clear video where a still shot can be taken that clearly shows the handles together. 3. Taking the video too far away thereby causing the first two problems. Even if the close is legal this will cause a failure because of the requirements for seeing a proper set and for the still shot of the handles shut. 4. Not taking all 3 attempts. 5. Going off camera so 1 and 2 again come into play.
