Brookfield's chisel

Roark

Recommended Posts

I have been sorting through boxes of materials

here lately, and rediscovered some chisels that

John Brookfield had sent to me in February 1994.

One is a 5/16" cold chisel, MAYHEW brand, code number

on the package is 84201, and it is high quality chrome

vanadium steel, forged in the USA since 1856, according

to the sleeve which held the chisel before he mangled

it.

On the chisel itself is written "70 Mayhew USA 5/16"

The chisel was about 5-3/8" long but has been bent

enough so that the ends are only 1-1/2" apart outside

measurement.

Another chisel, Master Mechanic brand is a 1/4" cold

chisel and has been bent to 1-1/8" outside measurement.

Another chisel snapped and he sent me the two pieces.

Amazing.
