Guest 115-1005574997
After reading the latest Black Log, i just wondered who on here can bend a 60 D nail (in the uk thats a 6" long 6mm diameter job)
BarBender
Steel strength varies too much in 60d nails. It would be better to ask who can bend a -insert steel strength here- 60d nail. Most people here can bend a 60d pole barn nail but would fail to kink a galvanized 60d nail.
Guest 115-1005574997
I did think of that Barbender, but its like 'who can shut the #3'? Look at all the variations in IP submited on this board but its the arbitory feat of strength rather than the accurate calculation of strength i was after. If you want to be accurate [i think] a UK 6" nail is in fact 150mm of 6mm diameter cold rolled steel.
Guest woody36
Scott, 60 pennies in the UK are easier to bend than CRS.
Guest 115-1005574997
woody so you recon the 6" are more like 6mm Hot Roled steel? At the moment im struggling with 6mm drawn steel
Guest woody36
Scott, Cold drawn is cold rolled steel, thats why your having trouble, Have a look in B&Q for some 6mm round rod,it's blackish in colour and hot rolled steel. Start off at say 8" in length and work down 1/4" at a time,if you work down to bending say a 5"length of this,a 60d should be no problem. Guest JimT
I just started to be able to put a kink in the ironmind yellow bar... no U shape yet - I think that's about equivalent to an average 60d nail, so I voted no
Guest 115-1005574997
Woody Im dead confused now At my local B&Q they sell silvery coloured 4mm, 5mm and 6mm 'drawn' steel rods. Then they have 6mm black 'hot rolled' steel. I can bend the 5mm 'drawn' and put a tiny bend in their 6" nails and about the same amount of bend in both the 6mm 'drawn' and 6mm black 'hot rolled' . Bloody wrists are killing me
Guest woody36
Scott, concentrate on the 5mm cold drawn ( cold rolled) for now Because you can bend 5mm Drawn already, you need to be working on bending shorter lengths of this diameter steel to increase your strength, start cutting an 1/8"off the last length you bent. Don't worry about the nails and 6mm bars at the moment, just keep bending the 5mm every other day ,with a further 1/8" of an inch cut off. Scott, if you've been cutting the Black HRS to short lengths eg:6 inch, then try longer lengths of say 8" and use the same progression system,it will take awhile to adapt to bending so don't rush, and use plenty of padding. Guest 115-1005574997
woody Thanks again mate. No wonder my wrist hurt then ??? Im going round to train with Dave Horne on Friday who will teach me proper form and technique (oh and that tip on padding is good as i have some horrible bruises on my hands). Right then. 5mm at 8" working down to to 5" by April. will do Thanks again mate.... I'll let you know how i go. Shame you cant come to the contest on the 20th april
Guest baldy
Woody, I think you are passing up a great opportunity to showcase your abilities and meet fellow grip trainers. You really should re-consider, unless your schedule just doesn't allow you to attend. To whoever voted they could bend two 60d's taped together (4 votes as of right now), you guys are monsters. Guest woody36
Tim, My Mother died on the 20th of december, and since then i've been sliding further and further into depression. I miss her very much, and am finding it hard to get any enthusiasm going for anything at the moment. I can tell you i'm not one of the four as regards the nails Best Regards Ray. Guest baldy
Ray, I had no idea. I am sorry to hear about your loss. Training usually takes my mind off things for a brief period, I hope that your training does the same. If so, immerse yourself in it. Also, I apologize for my ignorance of the situation. I would not have pressed you had I known.
Guest woody36
Tim, No apologies needed, you couldn't have known. OldGuy
I feel your pain Tim. I lost my mother the previous December. Depression is natural and I still have bad days. When both parents have passed on it is a very lonely feeling. Thank God I have my children. Good luck
