gaster
Maybe I missed it, but I don't see any threads about this competition. What do you guys think of the proposed rules? They seem interesting, that's for sure. Steel Bending: 1. Steel drill rod will be used and will be supplied by the A.O.B.S.The drill rod will be steel with W-1 water hardening, length 7".Starting diameter for all competitors will be a minimum of 5/16". Rod will be available in increments of 1/32nd of an inch. This type material is available from McMaster-Carr corporation and other industrial supply houses. 2. Hand must be bear but hand pads will be supplied by the A.O.B.S. and will consist of a choice of either a suede or washcloth type material approximately 4.5” x 7”, one for each end of the rod. The padding must be wrapped around the length of the steel with its ends extending equally from both ends of the steel. The ends of the padding may be folded back to toward the bender but may not be bent more than one time (e.g, you cannot roll up the end of the cloth under one or both ends of the steel). 3. The rod must be bend to an angle of 90 degrees or less between the two legs in order for the bend to be considered successful. In the event that no competitors can reach 90 degrees with a given diameter of steel, a winner will be determined by the smallest distance between the inside surface of the legs of the steel. 4. Neither the hands (or any part thereof), the padding nor the steel may rest on any part of the body of the competitor at any time during the bend – no posting. 5. The longitudinal axis of the nail must remain parallel frontal plane of the body (e.g, the nail may not be perpendicular to the chest of the bender). 6. The rod cannot be directly pushed against and part of the body aside from the hands. 7. Regardless of handgrip and bending style, the innermost surfaces of the two inner fingers of the hands must be 1" apart, or closer, at the first knuckle (means for measuring the distance will he supplied by the AOBS). 8. The hands may not move relative to the steel during the bend (e.g., the competitor may not bend with the hands one way and then continue the bend with another grip – there should be no need to move the hands as the bend required is only to 90 degrees). 9. Chalk supplied by the AOBS is permitted and will be available to all competitors. No other substance will be permitted on the hands. http://wlinfo.com/AOBS.htm Just scroll down a bit for information about the contest.
