I have been gripping for a few months and I have a few questions regarding bending, because I want to get into it. What would the recommended size of the bolt or nail that I start at be? Should I incorporate levering to maximize my bending, or does that not have any effect. Thank you

Start with 3/16" steel and a pair of bolt cutters.

Levering is good. Very good for a beginner.

Check out "a benders webpage", below.

I've heard it's an ok way to learn a little about bending.

It got me started on the right path and the guys here at the grip board made sure I didn't stray off it.

Welcome but I warn you once you bend that first good piece of steel your hooked and by then the addiction has already sunk its nails deep into you.

Some other great soucres of info is the an e-book on the gripboard and 2 bending articles on the Diesel website:

The Maximized Bending e-book by Eric Milfeld

Unbraced Bending by Greg Amidon & Dave Morton

Natural Advantages - Bending For Your Body Type by Clay Edgin

These will help you get the nuts and BOLTS of bending and NAIL down your best technique in the art of short steel bending. :D
