Guest 115-1005574997
What is the british equivalent to the US 40 penny, 60 penny and 100 penny nails? If i were to go to a metal dealer (in the UK) and wanted a steel rod equivalent or slightly less to the temper and thickness of a 6" nail, could anyone tell me what to ask for? Ironminds 'bag of nails' just seem a little expensive and wondered how i could get the eqivalent steel rods to their white, green and yellow. Guest woody36
Scott, A 60d is a 6 inch nail,as far as i can tell we don't have 100d nails,i get my steel from either B&Q or a steel stockists. B&Q usually sells it in 1 or 2 metre lengths which i cut to length, over here we call Cold rolled, cold drawn or cold reduced, but it's the same. Hope this helps Ray. Guest 115-1005574997
Cheers woody I thought it was one and the same but i wasnt sure. In brookfields book he talks about 100d nail bending and is the only person in the world to have done the IM reds (not even David Horne has bent one of these yet) though Dave and Jim (Wylie) are bending 2 6 inchers taped together and break single 6" nails. So you recon B&Q is the place to go? Fantastic. One of these B&Q wearhouses have opened up 500m from my house and the 6 " nails are a bit too tough for me to start on (would you start with a #3?) so i need a bit lighter grade wire. Thanks again. Guest woody36
Scott, get a couple of metres of hot rolled,it's easier than the 60d nails, start with a piece cut to say 8" inch and try find which technique suits you best, and then cut 1/4" off when you can to improve. They should also have 4 &5mm cold drawn which is easier to practice on because you can choose the length to cut to , in case you can't bend the 1/4" diameter HRS,but you're a strong lad and i think you won't have a problem with it. ps:Thanks for the info on what David and Jim are bending, you should be asking them for tips. All the best Ray.
jimwylie1
Scott Unfortunately I'm nowhere near bending two 60D nails together at the moment. I've seen Dave do it though.
OldGuy
Has anyone found any 50 D nails or 5 1/2'' nails ?
David Horne
Scott, I have put a few 3/4" bends into a couple of Ironmind red nails, but not a full bend. Check em out when you come over. David
